MEET THE LEADERSHIP TEAM
We started this organization because we were given the honor of raising opioid-exposed children, but were given very few tools to do it. We are determined to help parents and kids affected by opioids thrive by equipping them with support, education, and friendship along the way.

Lenette Serlo
CEO & FOUNDER
Lenette Serlo is the Founder & CEO of Generation O, The National Organization for Opioid-Exposed Children, the first national movement dedicated to supporting families raising the half million children born with prenatal opioid exposure. A graduate of Michigan State University and an adoptive mother of 4 substance-exposed children, Lenette combines personal lived experience with a diverse professional background to advance both compassion and science in this emerging field.
Under her leadership, Generation O has become a growing voice for caregivers and a trusted source translating complex research into plain English. By spotlighting the long-term consequences of prenatal opioid exposure—including impacts on brain development, learning, and behavior—Lenette is raising awareness, building partnerships, and ensuring that the unique needs of these children are recognized in healthcare, education, and policy.

Camellia Livingston Aaron
DIRECTOR OF STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS Founding Member
Cammy Livingston Aaron is a trailblazing New Orleans entrepreneur and co-founder of Generation O: The National Organization for Opioid-Exposed Children. As a busy mom of four and military wife to an active-duty Marine Corps Lt. Colonel, she balances family and purpose with relentless passion.
Through her thriving company, Camellia Productions, Cammy’s 20+ years of expertise in event management and strategic marketing—much of it dedicated to nonprofit causes—propels Generation O’s mission to uplift opioid-exposed kids nationwide.
Inspired by her late father, a quadriplegic who funded disability grants for over two decades after a car accident, Cammy channels her Crescent City grit into advocating for vulnerable children, forging partnerships, and building a legacy of hope with heart and hustle.

Dawn Fleming
DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
-
Heather Howard
DIRECTOR OF FINANCE
Founding Member
Heather Howard was born and raised in the Midwest and earned her accounting degree from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. After moving to California in 1991, she began her career as an accountant.
In 1995, Heather became a foster parent—a decision that reshaped her life. As children entered her home, she gained firsthand insight into the challenges faced by substance-exposed kids and saw the critical gaps in support. Her dedication grew with every placement.
In 2020, she brought home a newborn from the NICU who had been exposed to substances and left largely unattended for weeks. That experience led her to a Facebook group for Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome, where she connected with Generation O. Heather and her husband Tom adopted that little boy in 2022.
Now a core member of Generation O, Heather is committed to supporting families like hers—sharing knowledge, building community, and making sure no one walks this journey alone.

Kim Cortes
CHIEF OF STAFF & DIRECTOR OF PROGRAMS
Kim Cortes is a seasoned nonprofit leader with over a decade of experience in program management, strategic planning, and organizational capacity building. Holding a Master’s and a Juris Doctorate, Kim brings a robust analytical background to her work.
As a nonprofit leader, state-level policy-maker, and independent consultant, Kim has dedicated her career to helping mission-driven organizations create policy and programs that drive real change.
Much of Kim's career has focused on disability inclusion and advocacy. Her work with this community left her frustrated that her opioid-exposed children lacked access to the same types of services and supports. This frustration led her to Generation O, where she now serves in a dual role as Director of Programs and Chief of Staff.

Shelby Myers
DIRECTOR OF FUNDRAISING
Shelby was born and raised in Northern Arizona before moving to Phoenix to attend Grand Canyon University, where she earned her nursing degree. She began her nursing career working in postpartum and NICU settings, where she witnessed firsthand the growing need for compassionate foster parents willing to care for infants born exposed to opioids and other substances. Those experiences deeply shaped her heart and calling.
Motivated to make a difference, Shelby became a licensed foster parent and has since cared for many medically complex children, providing them with stability, love, and specialized care during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. Through this journey, she has also had the privilege of adopting two of these children into her family.
Shelby’s personal and professional experiences led her to discover Generation O while researching ways to better support her own child and others who were born opioid-exposed. What began as a search for resources quickly turned into a deeper calling to serve the broader community. Today, Shelby proudly serves as the Director of Finance and Fundraising for Generation O, where she is passionate about helping expand resources, build community support, and create brighter futures for children and families impacted by prenatal substance exposure.
